CarTCell® is a cartilage liquid extract with scientifically proven, oral bioavailability.
In 1999, a clinical human study of CarTCell® was published in the peer reviewed Journal of Surgical Research (volume 87, pp. 108–113). The double-blind study (which included a placebo) showed that CarTCell® could be assimilated via the oral route. It is the first time that such bioavailability has been demonstrated for a cartilage extract in a rigorous scientific study.

We use an exclusive and patented hypotonic shock cell extraction process to break the cell membrane and extract molecules at low temperatures to preserve the integrity of the molecules and to obtain maximum activity in each bottle. Liquid vs. Powder
Our liquid cartilage extract comes from the same biological material as the majority of powders-shark cartilage. In fact, the manufacturing process is what makes all the difference.
Cartilage is a highly hydrated material containing 50% to 80% water, depending on the source. With the CarTCell® manufacturing process, the biologically active substances are kept in their natural aqueous environment.
In addition, our extraction process removes the surrounding matrix, and concentrates bioactive molecules, making the product more potent. This highly bioactive extract is maintained at a low temperature during the entire manufacturing process. The last step uses ultra filtration techniques to concentrate the active fractions.
How does CarTCell® compare with other shark cartilage powder products?
Liquid extract is often inappropriately compared to shark cartilage in powder form. Although both are derived from the same material - shark cartilage - that is where the similarities end. The differences lie in the manufacturing process and the contents of the finished product. Cartilage is highly hydrated material, containing between 50 and 80% water depending on the source.
In the CarTCell® manufacturing process, biologically active substances always remain in their natural aqueous environment and are kept frozen, which helps prevent the degradation of the bioactive molecules. Liquid cartilage extract is low in minerals and contains water-soluble substances that can be readily assimilated by the organism.
What is so special about shark cartilage anyway?
Cartilage is the whitish material that coats the ends of bones. Cartilage is avascular, meaning that it is deprived of blood vessels. It is known to contain two major biological agents: antiangiogenic agents that prevent formation of blood vessels and collagenase inhibitors, enzymes that digest collagen fibres and similar components of connective tissues.*
